Three Votes

February 22, 2011

Friends,

On May 19th, 2011 the Los Ranchos Presbytery will vote on three controversial issues –

  • Amendment 10-A – whether to to omit the requirement for fidelity in marriage and chastity in singleness from the ordination standards for pastors, elders and deacons
  • nFOG – whether to adopt a new constitution (new Form of Government) for the PC(USA)
  • Belhar – whether to add the Belhar Confession to our Book of Confessions

The Los Ranchos Presbytery agreed to study these issues prior to voting in May and there is a lot of material available to help us prepare.  Dr. Richard Mouw, President of Fuller Seminary, will be leading a workshop on Amendment 10-A http://www.losranchos.org/our-media-headline-news-dr-richard-mouw-speaks.php and Dr. Keith Geckeler Rev. Steve Smith and Ron Kernaghan will lead a workshop on the nFOG during Presbytery’s Open Space Sessions beginning at 200PM this Thursday, Feb 24, 2011 at Trinity Presbyterian Church.   Also, Dr. Jerry Tankersley has written a paper on the Belhar Confession.  Copies of these papers and presentations are available at http://www.losranchos.org/our-learning-presbytery-gathering.php

In addition to these, GA Help provides articles and reference material on these subjects from many diverse sources in an attempt to demonstrate the issues from a variety of perspectives.  This site is perhaps the most comprehensive catalog of resource material on these proposals.  Available at http://www.gahelp.net/

I hope you find these resources helpful as you prepare for these important votes.

BHFLM,
Rick Hume, Elder – Commissioner to the 219th General Assembly; Member LRP Bills and Overtures Committee
